Removing Non-Canonical Pages from Sitemap

Remove Noindex and Non-Canonical Pages from Sitemap

Shopify

Shopify automatically generates a sitemap for your store, but it doesn’t provide a direct way to exclude noindex or non-canonical pages. To achieve this, you can use an app like “XML Sitemap & NoIndex Manager” or “Sitemap & NoIndex Manager” from the Shopify App Store. These apps allow you to manage your sitemap and exclude specific pages.

Steps:

  1. Install the “XML Sitemap & NoIndex Manager” app from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Open the app and navigate to the sitemap settings.
  3. Locate the pages you want to exclude and mark them as noindex or non-canonical.
  4. Save your changes and regenerate the sitemap.

WooCommerce (WordPress)

In WooCommerce, you can use the Yoast SEO plugin to manage your sitemap and exclude noindex or non-canonical pages.

Steps:

  1. Install and activate the Yoast SEO plugin from the WordPress Plugin Repository.
  2. Navigate to SEO > Search Appearance in your WordPress dashboard.
  3. Go to the Content Types tab and locate the post types you want to exclude.
  4. Set the Show [Post Type] in search results? option to No for the post types you want to exclude.
  5. For non-canonical pages, navigate to the individual page or post editor, scroll down to the Yoast SEO meta box, and set the canonical URL to the desired URL.
  6. Save your changes and Yoast SEO will automatically update your sitemap.
