Identifying and Fixing 4XX and 5XX Errors in Shopify and WooCommerce

4XX and 5XX errors can negatively impact your eCommerce site’s SEO. Here’s how to identify and fix them on Shopify and WooCommerce.

Shopify

  1. Use Shopify’s Built-in Tools: Shopify provides a basic error logging system. Go to Online Store > Preferences > Google Analytics and enable Google Analytics if you haven’t already.
  2. Google Search Console: Connect your Shopify store to Google Search Console. Navigate to Coverage to see a list of 4XX and 5XX errors.
  3. Fixing Errors: For 4XX errors, ensure the URL is correct or set up a 301 redirect. For 5XX errors, contact Shopify support as these are server-related issues.

WooCommerce

  1. Use Plugins: Install a plugin like Redirection to log 404 errors. Navigate to Tools > Redirection to view the error logs.
  2. Google Search Console: Connect your WooCommerce site to Google Search Console. Navigate to Coverage to see a list of 4XX and 5XX errors.
  3. Fixing Errors: For 4XX errors, ensure the URL is correct or set up a 301 redirect using the Redirection plugin. For 5XX errors, check your server logs or contact your hosting provider.

Regularly monitoring and fixing these errors will help maintain your site’s SEO health.
