Identifying Orphan Pages on Your Website

Identifying Orphan Pages on Shopify and WooCommerce

Orphan pages are pages on your website that are not linked to from any other page. These pages can be problematic for SEO as they are difficult for search engines to find and index. Here’s how you can identify orphan pages on Shopify and WooCommerce:

On Shopify

  1. Use a Sitemap Generator: Generate a sitemap of your Shopify store using a sitemap generator app from the Shopify App Store. This will list all the URLs on your site.
  2. Export All URLs: Export all the URLs from your sitemap to a CSV file.
  3. Use Google Analytics: Go to Google Analytics and navigate to Behavior > Site Content > All Pages. Export this list of URLs.
  4. Compare Lists: Compare the list of URLs from your sitemap with the list from Google Analytics. Any URLs that appear in the sitemap but not in Google Analytics are likely orphan pages.

On WooCommerce

  1. Use a Sitemap Plugin: Install a sitemap plugin like Yoast SEO to generate a sitemap of your WooCommerce store.
  2. Export All URLs: Export the URLs from your sitemap to a CSV file.
  3. Use Google Analytics: In Google Analytics, navigate to Behavior > Site Content > All Pages and export this list of URLs.
  4. Compare Lists: Compare the URLs from your sitemap with those from Google Analytics. URLs present in the sitemap but missing in Google Analytics are potential orphan pages.

By identifying and addressing orphan pages, you can ensure that all your important content is accessible to both users and search engines, improving your site’s overall SEO performance.
