Checking for Canonical Tags on Category Pages

Canonical tags are essential for preventing duplicate content issues and ensuring that search engines understand the primary version of a page. Here’s how you can check if your category pages have canonical tags or self-referencing canonicals on Shopify and WooCommerce.

Shopify

  1. Go to your Shopify admin panel.
  2. Navigate to Online Store > Themes.
  3. Click on Actions > Edit Code.
  4. In the Templates folder, open the collection.liquid file.
  5. Look for the section and check for a canonical tag like this: .
  6. If the canonical tag is missing, add it within the section.

WooCommerce

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin panel.
  2. Navigate to Appearance > Theme Editor.
  3. In the right-hand sidebar, find and open the header.php file.

  5. If the canonical tag is missing, add it within the section.
